Youth Theatre Workshops

July 18- July 30, 2011
Brandon Valley Performing Arts Center
Final Performance Saturday, July 30, 3:00 p.m.

PRT is proud to offer Brandon area youth an exciting opportunity to participate in Camp PRT Youth Theatre Workshops. Under the direction of Sioux Falls teacher and actress Jacqueline Pierce- Humke, each session will be filled with exercises and educational activities designed to teach theatre skills and enhance the students’s natural talents while having a really fun time! Students will also be able to interact with members of the PRT Company as each class prepares for the camp’s final performances.

Workshop One: Acting Out
Students having completed 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades
July 25-29, 8:00-9:30 a.m.; July 30, 12:30-4:30 p.m.

You yearn for a taste of the stage, but where do you go from here? Well, we’ll help you find out! In this session, we’ll offer not only an overview of theatre skills such as staging, movement, stage presence and characterizations, but we’ll utilize exercises which focus on projection, enunciation, and having fun. Participants will perform an original script for family and friends on Saturday, July 30, at 3:00 p.m. Cost: $65.00 includes workshop T-shirt.

Workshop Two: Play It Like It Is
Students having completed 4th and 5th grades
July 18-22 & July 25-29, 1:00-3:00 p.m.; July 30,1:00-4:30 p.m.

Whether you were “made for the stage,” or just wish to build a little more self-confidence, this workshop is for you! “Step up” to a higher level of theatre skills and exercises, focusing on acting techniques and stage movement, as well as bringing insight to preliminary scene work and technical theatre aspects. Participants will use these newly-learned skills to present a play to family and friends on Saturday, July 30, at 3:00 p.m. Cost: $80.00 includes workshop T-shirt.

Workshop Three: Musical Theatre
Students having completed 6th, 7th and 8th grades
July 18-22 & July 22-26, 3:00-5:30 p.m.; July 30, 1:45-4:30 p.m.

Participants will have a lot of fun as they learn about the different styles of musical theatre. Focusing on movement, rhythm, and vocal projection, students will enhance their acting & singing skills and stage presence as they prepare a small musical to be performed for family and friends on Saturday, July 31, 3:00 p.m. Cost: $80.00 includes workshop T-shirt.

Workshop Four: Theatre Performance
Students having completed 9th,10th and 11th grades
July 18-22 & July 25-29, 9:30 a.m.-noon; July 30, 2:15-4:30 p.m.

These older students will concentrate on a broader musical theatre spectrum, incorporating choreography, vocal projection and pitch, and overall stage presence—honing in on actual scene work, polishing, presenting oneself and “selling” yourself on stage! Their hard work will pay off when participants present a final performance for family and friends on Saturday, July 30, at 3:00 p.m. Cost: $80.00 includes workshop T-shirt.

All workshops will be held at the Brandon Valley Performing Arts Center. Please use the Performing Arts Center entrance when arriving and leaving each workshop. Final performances will be on the stage of the Brandon PAC on Saturday, July 30, at 3:00 p.m.

Each participant will receive a Free Ticket with an Adult Purchase to either Crazy for You or Church Basement Ladies at the Brandon PAC. Students will receive a voucher to be redeemed at the PRT Box Office anytime after class registration.
